I bought the Sapphire HD 3850 thinking it would help, but it made things worse. (I couldn't even run TF2 w/everything on low)

 Here are my specs now:

Windows XP Pro
Pentium 4 2.8GHz
2.75 GB RAM
NVIDIA GeForce Ti 4200 with AGP8X (64 MB)
250 GB HD, 232 GB free

I still have the Sapphire card waiting to be returned, so I need to know what to exchange it for. My only guess is my CPU can't handle the power of the GPU. Let me know, thanks.

This card may be your savior. Take a look at how well it runs OBLIVION and Rainbow 6: Vegas. It should run TF2 and the rest of The Orange Box just fine.

Unfortunately, it looks like you have about the best you can get on a Socket 478 processor. If you have another socket type, let me know, and I can go see what I can find in terms of upgrades.

Sorry for the Double post, i hit post by mistake and it won't let me edit.

Anyway, I'm just gonna use this topic.  Do you think that Graphics card will work for me?  Mine just broke, and I need a cheap but at least decent graphics card because right now I'm using a really cheap one that came with my PC (Radeon X300)  I'm not all that computer savvy, and I have a Dell Dimension 4700, if that helps.

^ Use the image on this page to find what port your PC has. After that I could help you figure out what cards could work for you. Just open up the case, and look on the motherboard for those ports. After you know what port you have, I can help you find a cheap and effective card.

From what I gather, the X300 isn't an AGP card, but I just want to be sure.

Yeah, I have PCI-E port.  I just don't know of any good Graphics cards that are cheap, I don't wanna make my parents spend a lotta money on a new card right now, especially because when in a couple of years when I go to college they're gonna get me a laptop anyway.  I just wanna run TF2 at good settings at about 60 FPS.
