Seriously.
I racked up over a hundred hours on this class over the last couple months and now I feel like EVERYTHING has changed. I feel like I've been declawed. Nothing I do, nothing I've learned and practiced in the last half-year works anymore. With the range reduction and the facestab fix (though conversely, I'm still getting bugged backstabs) I feel like the class is entirely new, and entirely boring now.
In TFC, I loved Spy and Medic above all other classes. When I came to TF2, the Spy still had my heart. Right now, I just don't even have the motivation to bother. Right now, I'm thinking I'm pretty much done with this game.
So I'm honestly asking you folks here (not trolling or insulting), why are you still playing spy?

i still play it because other than the trick stabs rendered useless it is a tiny bit easier to pull of a backstab if you time it right.
Plus I dont think the change fixed facestabs completely, today I crouched in front of an engi, stabbed him in the kneecap, and it registered as a backstab.

Does QFT mean Quit Fucking Talking? I should probably know, but I don't. Also, it's not that big of a deal really... Even if you do quit playing, you got at least 6 months of entertainment for 20 dollars...

I can't stand the shortened knife range. I can live with the decreased angle range (I think this is more balanced) but the new knife range is ridiculous It seems like you literally have to be on the enimies hitbox for the stab to hit Fixing facestabs is good. This isn't a nerf. It's a bug fix. Originally Posted by QuASI Does QFT mean Quit Fucking Talking?

You'll be back...
Srsly tho, the class will change again I presume when they release the unlocks. All those tricks and things that you learned, didn't make you good at Spy, in fact I think it dumbed down the class and overhyped it alot.
Now that the class actually requires you to get real backstabs and think more, we will see who really likes the Spy class and who just liked the exploited tricks. They did a good thing for the integrity of the game IMO.

These posts whining about buffs are oddly familiar.
For the first few weeks of the Pyro buffs Rizz, who had clocked several hundred hours into the previously "broken" class, was making the exact same statements. I backed it 100%, the class is no longer challenging to play.
Nobody gave a shit cared because they would never want to see the nerfs return, even if it would benefit game balance immensely.
The third statement, however, is not the case for Spy, as I believe this update was necessary to balance the class a little more positively. If anything your previous experience with the class should make you worlds better than people just beginning to play it and doing okay. What's to complain about? Not much of a challenge?
I disguise as friendly classes, get ubered, and then backstab the nearest person who turns around to run away. Very funny when they are in Vent and asking wtf just happened.

quASI: Since I'm unsure whether or not you're being sarcastic, I'm going to assume you're a good dude and tell you that QFT means "Quoted For Truth", generally. And yeah, six months for twenty bucks is a pretty sweet deal. I had a good run, and I'll miss the way things were. I'm definitely not saying Valve ripped me off, or anything like that.
Just saying that I'm disappointed, and asking what keeps other spies motivated.

EDIT: Yow, lots of new comments since I responded to QuASI. Let me just respond by saying that the game feels much more one-dimensional now. Yes, in some cases it is no longer a challenge, and if I changed my playstyle, I could probably get a lot more out of these unchallenging aspects.
For me, the real meat of spy was yes, in the "bugs" or "exploits" or what have you. Stairstabs, flickstabs, etc. If I just wanted to repeatedly sneak behind enemy lines, stab a soldier or two and run away, I'm sure I'd love these changes. What I really enjoyed was the mindset, the special circumstances required for actually using these "bugs". Flickstabbing passing scouts was incredibly rewarding. Dropping off perches onto charged medics was always worth the instant, bloody reprisal. Stairstabs, while difficult, were a laugh riot when the victims were baffled by what happened.
Facestabs I never liked, if that's what you mean.
Now I can stab a pyro repeatedly in the back and he doesn't die - he just gets a little notification on his screen reading "FREE POINTS BEHIND YOU DUDE".
For the record, I really do want to know why spies are still playing. What keeps you going, guys?

Just saying that I'm disappointed, and asking what keeps other spies motivated. I just connected the dots on the QFT thing and was coming back to edit so I didn't look like a dumbass. Too late.
