Because we don't know if they are man or woman.
But really, it's because of the amount of skill they take to use.  Which... is really none at all.

Also, likely because the lack of smart Pyro players.  The most common tactic of many Pyro's are W+M1.

The amount of effort it takes for a person playing the Pyro class to kill any other class in the game, compared to what it takes any other class to kill any other class, is staggering.

*Flamer does too much damage
*Airblast effectly neutralizes the one game mechanic meant to break up stalemates or defenses (ubers)
*Flamer has a retardedly long and wide hitbox, allowing him to do damage with about the same effort it takes as aiming a Medigun
*Flamer's hitbox travels faster than the Pyro can run, allowing the player to set faster classes on fire (Scout and Medic)

They don't take enough skill to play, essentially all the pyro has to do is run forward and hold the fire button

Well, Pyros are annoying to kill as Spy because they could turn at any moment and just burp a flame.  But since I'm Spy, I tend to stay the FUCK away from Pyros.
Going Spyro is so beneficial...

*Ahem!*  Anyway, Pyros aren't so bad.  Just get out of their range, because their long range weapons aren't reliable- hell, REVOLVER is better than Flare Gun/Shotgun.

I still feel like almost every class is a counter to pyros. Just keep tabs on them the way you do enemy scouts, and there's not a lot they can do.

The thing about Pyros is that they are screwed until they are in range, but once they are in range, they are an absolute pain to deal with and they take very little skill to do insane amounts of close range DPS. The sad fact is that the Pyro has a very low skill requirement to be somewhat effective but have a low skill ceiling overall.

Pretty much what nekped stated here, as it is now the Pyro would need to be completely redone in order to escape its current status; I don't like that it's turned out like this, but hopefully that'll change one day.

All that is required for killing is to be next to your opponent. Then you win. I actually feel like I'm having a fight as battle engy against terrible soldiers, I beat them because they are bad and can't aim, but if that same terrible player went pyro, they would probably win unless I saw them running at me before he was in flamethrower range. I don't hate good pyros, I hate the ones that will walk up to you no matter the circumstances for that one kill. For example, I sniped a pyro, and because of that when he came back he ran into 2 soldiers, a scout, and a medic, just to try and kill me. He didn't even fight them, he ignored them completely and walked straight towards me holding w+m1, trying to get one kill even if he died.. He wasn't successful. Those are the pyros I hate.
