Will it run.

Hay guys im contemplating buying l4d 2 and and the new call of duty game but i need to work out if they actually do befor i go and buy the game.

l4d2 will prolly run cuz valve is good like that

but heres the weak points in your system that will likely give you a really bad time in at least COD but maybe even in l4d2

- Only 1 gb of ram. Thats like...wtf man. 1gb of ram costs only $10 bucks these days. You need 2gb to get decent performance out of any game but its only when you hit the 3-4gb mark that memory stops being an issue. 1gb will NOT cut it for cod and its gonna give you a shit time on l4d2
- geforce 9500GT - its really rough that nvidia isnt marketing this stuff properly, but any nvidia card less than x600 (so 7600, 8600, 9600 or better are good) are not really made for gaming. The x500 and lower cards (9500 aka your card) are made for multimedia and light 3d applications only.

running COD on this is gonna be like trying to fit the circle peg into the star hole if you know what i mean
and while l4d2 might run, its prolly not gonna run well in any circumstance and you are prolly gonna be running at 800x600 on all lowest settings just so that you arent hitting your memory bottleneck.

damn people recommended me the wrong card.

well you could spend the $300 on a new xbox (base price is what $250 now?, plus you need controllers (at least 1 extra), battery packs (which tbh is the more economical choice unless you already have good rechargable batterys), dual battery charger, and xbox live ($60/y). And you know i said that i wasnt going to buy these extras when i got mind but the console kinda ends up sucking without them, which you find out really quickly. Not to mention you get nickle and dimed on the xbox. Like NOTHING good is free on it. its alllllllllllllllllllll DLC for MS points

you could spend:
$30 bucks for some new ram so you have 4GB
$100 on a 9800GT  <---- EDITED FOR MISTAKE (5:18PM EST)

and for half the price of the xbox360 you can keep playing your current games at MUCH better performance and graphics, and then get a proper online gaming experience instead of that half baked crap you get on the xbox (which isnt even free).
Thats my two cents. console gaming seems cheaper in the initial cost but its not, at all when you factor it in clearly.
it also kinda depends on how serious of a gamer you are i guess. I own a 360 but only use it for xbox exclusive games or offline games that i dont mind paying for. For everything else its my pc.

i dunno how you even deal with 1gb of ram even for non gaming things. thats gotta be so slow! when you upgrade your pc for gaming you upgrade it for everything else like any productivity apps, web browsing, multimedia, and a shit ton of free games.

my above post has a pretty good card for the price, lemme check tomshardware recommended price/value for this month.

$90-190 USD  <--- the cheapest on this page is imho your best deal for future-proofing (ie not having to buy another card in april for the next gen games)
<$85 USD

Remember, its always a good idea to wait for a sale. Hot cards go on sale allll the time or have rebates. But you gotta watch the ads and websites every day.

Who recommended the 8500 if i might ask? A lot of the time i feel like ppl go into a store and say i want to play video games but i dont have much money, and the sales guy recommends something in their budget but either doesnt know or doesnt care if the card is going to be decent enough at playing the games that they want. Like the 8500 would be decent for world of warcraft on low-medium settings but prolly pretty bad for l4d2 or COD which are pretty resource intensive games.

Maybe you should wait a bit on the vid card, see how well those games play. Im sure there will be a COD demo or you can download it first to see if it works.

The ram will be necessary in all cases though.
