cannot find servers

Hi all,

I am a complete newbie.  Can anyone help with my problem that I have installed the game but the server list remains empty no matter how long I wait?  No firewall running.

The first thing I always recommend is to restart your modem and router if you have one, and also your computer.

Then I'd go into Steam's settings and on the download tab set the speed of  your internet connection to the 2nd or 3rd option.

Now try refreshing the internet tab on the servers list. Make sure that you arent using any unwanted filters, make sure that 'latency' and 'location' has no value.

If it works, good, if not, try launching the game you want to view servers for and see if the game browser there works, following the above line for filters.

I am very grateful for your response.  Unfortunately nothing that you have suggested works.

The browser window in the game is completely blank.  If I try to connected to a server using the Steam window I get the message "disconnected  - connection failed after 4 retries  .I only have one game loaded: tf2.  To try to solve the problem I have completely wiped my hard disc and reinstalled the bare minimum of programs.  I downloaded tf2 from steam in about 9 hours.

I would really appreciate it if you could help further.

Hmm, I had this problem when I first got the game, but after a few days it seemed to solve itself. I don't think I can really help, but how long are you waiting for servers to show up?

well, actually forever - there are no servers at all on the game browser, no matter how long I wait.  There are plenty of servers on the Steam browser window although most of them show that there are no players.  If I try to join one that has players I get "disconnected after 4 tries" every time.  I suppose that the next step is to uninstall everything again and have another try.

postscript:

I uninstalled Comodo and Bingo -  I can connect to a server.  Previoulsy I had only exited from it but apparently it still runs in the background and this prevents Steam games from connecting.  Pity, because I rather like Comodo.

I dont even know what comodo and bingo is...

why would it interfere with your game?

can you just connect to a server from console with "connect x.x.x.x" ? Also can you use steam to browse the store/community?  Comodo is a firewall correct? 

i had the same problem only i upgraded to windows seven and help?
