It seems kinda cheap, if valve wanted snipers to have a crosshair, they would have given it to us. An amazing sniper told me he dotted his screen though. What do you guys think?

Well, I've personally created a script that displays a pair of crosshairs on top of my TF2 window so that they display at all times.  Of coarse, I don't use this ever and I did it for kicks.  You can also just put a small piece of scotch tape on your monitor and put the dot on that.

It's cheap, although not technically cheating since it's not a software hack and everyone is capable of doing it.

In my mind it's cheating.  If that sniper was truly amazing he would not have to do this screen.

IIRC this was dubbed cheating by the powers that be on this site some months ago. There was a 3152978635216 page argument/thread on it, many people were banned, it wasn't pleasant.

I think we should all avoid the ensuing argument. Some think it's cheating, some don't, and the people who do it should probably not talk about it around here.

You're serious?

The best snipers are that good because they know exactly where the middle of the screen is instinctively.

They line up their shot while unscoped, then scope in and shoot.  Boom.  Headshot.  No delay to set your crosshairs, because they're already on your opponent's head.

Dotting your screen gives you the same ability without any skill involved.  It's incredibly useful.

Not to mention cheap.

Why not just quick switch from your Sniper to your SMG and back?  If you do this fast enough you can see the crosshairs and get a noscope off.

I've dotted my screen before, it helps 10 fold easily.  I could just no scope people all day, it was like having the railgun back from my quake days.  I got rid of it after a couple games, was fun but sniper isnt my thing.

I'd say dotting your screen is ok- if a sniper has to dot their screen they're going to be a bad sniper, and even dotted up will be unlikely to headshot me.
Good snipers don't need dots, they know where the middle of their screen is.
Even better snipers don't need their moniters- they know where their opponent's heads will be without having to look.

Big Lou, it still adds a delay in there.

There are some people I know who I suspect are screen dotting. Unfortunately, there's no concrete evidence I can discern, as he doesn't overtly do no-scopes.
