I've been using crouch+jump with crouch slightly earier.
I keep watching vids taht say jump+crouch and i dont notice a big difference.
is one better than the other? and what is best for distance jumps?
And does crouching do more damge than just jumping?

ive always noticed that if i hit crouch before jump i just crouch, and not jump. I guess that with Heavy though, can you jump while crouching as other classes?

No, the crouch-jump is a Source Engine trick that's in most if not all Source games to some extent.  Basially, what you do if hit the crouch button ever so slightly before the jump button and you should get a little extra distance in your jump/a jump that has a more shallow trajectory.  It works really well in Counter Strike Source for jumping though certain spaces in maps that are just too low for you to get through with an average jump.  I haven't really found much use for it in TF2 though other than maybe getting an edge jumping throught the windows in Gravel Pit's point B.

Yes, it's the equivalent of tucking in your knees while jumping in real life. It also allows you to better rocket jump.

thanks! crouch jump always worked for me when i needed it too but it was kinda incosistent..... sometimes i got the same height u get from just shooting at the ground.

also when you're strafing against another soldier or to dodge something.....
which is more effective to dodge with?

Not exactly, you will only jump just as high,  but you can get to higher ledges because your feet will be tucked up underneath you.

It's jump then crouch, only in HL2 does this give you a speed boost, but in CS:S and TF2, it just lifts your legs so you can mount higher heights.

I'm gonna leach off of this guy's forum, how do you do distance rocket jumps, Ive seen people go like, halfway across a map with one, and i cant figure out how to, every time i do a rocket jump i just go up, well up and a little bit forward, I can hop a cargo box, but not half a battle area, how do you do it?
