OK so I got fed up with my outdated clunky desktop system. I'm seriously considering buying a laptop but I'm not too familiar with the strange world of portable computing.

This is pretty much what I've narrowed it down to.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=2034940032%204021%201041010743&bop=And&ActiveSearchResult=True&Order=PRICED

Now I need a few thihngs...

Those of you in the know please tell me which one would be best for games such as TF2. Are the Sony Vaios any good? I don't have a preference but want to avoid HP unless it's the absolute better choice.

Also, do I need to buy a video card for the laptop? If I do, please point me in the right direction of a good one.

If any of those don't need an upgraded video card, that would be ideal. Please let me know your opinions and help me select the right laptop.

OH, and I might be using this for a tiny bit of sound recording and editing, but that's an afterthought.

You wont be able to upgrade any compontent in a laptop except for the RAM and hard drive, so be sure you buy something with enough power for at least the foreseeable future.

Most people are giong to tell you to buy and build a desktop, which will be much cheaper and more powerful. I'll assume you've already consitered that option.

For a laptop purchace, you want to look for a Core 2 Duo processor, at least 2GB of RAM, and a dedicated video card. Good brands are Acer and Asus, at least for your price range and what you need it for. I prefer Asus and would go for it if you can - 2 year warranty with 1 year accidental damage coverage.

The ideal price range is around $1000, anything more than that and you should build a desktop AND buy a laptop. However, heres what I'd recommend for under $750.

Under $750:

MSI GX630 - $650
AMD Athlon X2 @ 2.0GHz
4GB RAM
9600GT

Acer Aspire - $750 (recommended)
Core 2 Duo T6500 @ 2.1GHz
4GB DDR3 RAM
nVidia 130M GT (~9700GT)

@the ebay gateway: It's decent enough, but keep in mind its bulkiness. Also, pray to god it doesnt break, because Gateway's support sucks, and I'd bet that computer is out of warranty anyway.
