playing tf2 kills all computer audio after about 10 mins of play

I've been having this problem ever since i downloaded tf2 a few days ago. I'll power on my computer and all sound will function for anything i want to do: youtube, music cds in media player, even other programs (i installed starcraft just to see if sound would work for it and the sound worked fine). However, the moment i load up tf2 i know that it won't be long until the sound cuts out completely. Sound will work normally at first but then without any warning or error messages or pop-ups and without any changes made (i could just be sitting in the spawn area doing nothing for the duration of the game) the sound cuts out after about 10 to 20 minutes. Now when this happens, all sound on my computer is dead and no program whose sound worked prior to loading up tf2 will work anymore until i reset my computer, but then the whole ordeal starts all over again.

Has anyone had this problem and have the knowledge on what might be wrong?
