So I was thinking. I have my own server and it is normally only active at night, so if anyone gets in during the day, it really isn't much fun to play and they end up leaving. A mod that I think would be awesome would be having bots in the game and then if a real person tries to connect to the server, the next bot that dies, the real life person joins. This will help keep the fun at a high level and it will help keep real people coming back into the server because they see it is always full (or close, you would want every position filled with bots, like if there was 20 humans playing, there really isn't a need for bots anymore, so all bots could be killed off and not regenerate until the server got low again). How doable would this be?

But how will they get the bots, to form strategys, and form a class variety.. I can see each bot going its own ways, and ruining the Team Fortress Feel.. it will be too easy. Each one, doing its own thing, and not helping the others

they're adding bots already. just wait for the update that'll have em. the old tfc bots were immaculate, sturmbots i think.. or was that dod? i can't remember. but they owned. regardless, even if you have bots most people steer clear of those servers like they're plagued.

Yea, sturmbots were for DoD. Foxbots were for TFC.

It's pretty much what killed TFC.  I loved Foxbot for lan parties to fill out large teams - but online, since there was no Friends system yet, you couldn't tell whether or not there were bots or real players on a server (even by name since most admins would name the bots after their clan members and friends.)

It got to the point where you might find a server after about five or six tries, or if you got lucky, you'd find an ip on a forum for a real server.

Then there were the mods - but I won't get into those.  However, I think it's safe to say that no one wants to download 50 megs of custom homer simpson sound effects just to play Dustbowl on a server with 125 latency.

If I have any say in the server I run, there will never be any bots on our server.

I find them.. how do I put this.. Stupid?

It inflates server stats and makes it seem like it's full and drags people into the server when there is no one to play with. That's not my idea of cool or fun.

I want real people to play with, not AI. (Unless of course the AI happens to be better than that of FEAR's.)

The AI of FEAR would not work in TF2.  It's all built around having a single opponent, and following pre-defined decision trees to move and attack based on where he is and what he's doing in an environment with linear progress between areas.

It's great for single player, but bots are far more demanding.

If they are implemented I hope that they take steps to ensure that bots are clearly designated as such, both in-game and while searching for servers.

Making bots for tf2 would be incredible hard (this is pointed out by the maker of tf2) because you would have to write a script with the AI for each class.  I have heard rumors about bots being put in later after the release of full game.

Yeah I hate game servers that put bots in just to make it look like the place is actually populated.  If I want to play against the AI, I'll fire up single player.

Try playing against some of the bots in CSS - the AI is pretty decent and they have scripted different responses to the guns.. So while it will take awhile for bots to come out, they WILL come out and they will more then likely be decent.
